The School of Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Engineering Maths delivers world-class research and outstanding teaching via its three departments: Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Engineering Mathematics, all have a world-leading track record in research and education. The research in the school is organized into several Strategic Research Activities (e.g., smart cities, digital health) and several research groups (e.g., Intelligent Systems, Robotics, Visual Information Lab). This project will belong to the Intelligent Systems (IS) group, which is an internationally recognized centre for conducting top quality research in machine learning, data mining, pattern recognition, uncertain event reasoning, Web technologies, natural intelligent systems, knowledge and Information fusion under uncertainty and inconsistency. Members of IS have actively engaged in many multidisciplinary research. Examples include being part of newly established Data Intensive Research Institute across the university; part of the Bristol Robotics Lab (funded by the EPSRC, between UOB and UWE); home to a vibrant community of over 200 academics, researchers and industry practitioners; and hosting the £15m SPHERE project, jointly funded by EPSRC, Bristol City Council.
UOB/UWE Bristol’s main contributions are in WP3 for developing novel social network analytical algorithms, planning algorithms, and for integrating these algorithms for evaluation. Our previous experience in intelligent autonomous systems for SCADA, big data analytics for sensor networks and dynamic planning under uncertainty for BDI agents in complex systems will be applied to these WPs. We will also exploit our research expertise gained from our research projects: CSIT, PACES, RISK, PAuSE; Social Media Analysis for Public Health Interventions; Physical Activity Monitoring for Public Health.
